Il Canto degli Italiani (The Song of the Italians) is also very commonly known by its opening line: “Fratelli d’Italia” (“Brothers of Italy”).

‘Scipio’ refers to Scipio Africanus, the Roman general who defeated Hannibal - a symbol of Roman strength.
