הַתִּקְוָה

כֹּל עוֹד בַּלֵּבָב פְּנִימָה
נֶפֶשׁ יְהוּדִי הוֹמִיָּה,
וּלְפַאֲתֵי מִזְרָח קָדִימָה
עַיִן לְצִיּוֹן צוֹפִיָּה.

עוֹד לֹא אָבְדָה תִּקְוָתֵנוּ,
הַתִּקְוָה בַּת שְׁנוֹת אַלְפַּיִם:
לִהְיוֹת עַם חָפְשִׁי בְּאַרְצֵנוּ,
אֶרֶץ צִיּוֹן וִירוּשָׁלַיִם.

Hatikvah

Kol od balevav p’nimah
Nefesh Yehudi homiyah,
Ulefa-atei mizrach kadimah,
Ayin l’Tziyon tsofiyah.
Od lo avdah tikvateinu,
Hatikvah bat sh’not alpayim,
Lihyot am chofshi b’artzeinu,
Eretz Tziyon v’Yerushalayim.

English Translation

The Hope

As long as deep in the heart
The Jewish soul yearns,
And toward the eastern horizon
An eye looks to Zion,

Our hope has not yet been lost,
The hope of two thousand years:
To be a free people in our own land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
