Patriotic Song

Until the East Sea’s waters run dry and Mount Baekdu is worn away,
May God protect our country forever.

Three thousand li of splendid rivers and mountains,
Filled with the Rose of Sharon (hibiscus),
May the Korean people preserve it forever.

The anthem has 4 verses, though typically only the first verse is sung at most events.
The music was composed in 1935 by Ahn Eak-tai.
The flower mentioned, Mugunghwa (무궁화), is the national flower of South Korea.
“Three thousand li” symbolises the full length of the Korean Peninsula.
