Pichide dar gush-e zaman faryadetan

English Translation

National Anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Upwards on the horizon rose the Eastern Sun,
The light in the eyes of the believers in justice.

Bahman is the glory of our faith.
Your message, O Imam,
Of independence and freedom
Is engraved upon our souls.

O martyrs!
Your cries echo through the ears of time.

May you endure and remain eternal,
Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Bahman” refers to the Persian month in which the 1979 Iranian Revolution culminated

“Imam” refers to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, leader of the revolution

The anthem strongly reflects the ideology and symbolism of the Islamic Republic established after 1979

Many Iranians, especially outside Iran or opposed to the current government, also identify strongly with the patriotic song “Ey Iran”, which is often considered an unofficial or cultural anthem.
